Middleweight champ Jake Shields, lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez, and light heavyweight challenger Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal earned dominant decision victories at Saturday’s CBS-televised “Strikeforce: Nashville” event, but their performances were overshadowed by a post-fight brawl between Shields and Jason “Mayhem” Miller, who was victorious on the “Nashville” prelims.

Making his Strikeforce debut in the “Nashville” headliner, veteran Dan Henderson dropped Shields twice in the opening round of the main event, but was unable to put away the 185-pound title-holder, who not only survived the frame, but quickly turned around the fight.  read more »

UFC President, Dana White has confirmed that UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva will square off with Chael Sonnen in his next fight inside the octagon, warning “The Spider” if he ever fights the way he did in Abu Dhabi again he’ll cut him from the promotion.

Speaking via ESPN’s Jim Rome Is Burning, Dana said:

“We’ll find out in his next fight if I got through to him or not. He’s got a real tough fight coming up because his next fight is going to be against Chael Sonnen. And Chael Sonnen is one of these guys who’s not going to lay back, not going to do what these other guys did. When he’s been in this position when these types of fights have happened, he’s been against real good jiu jitsu guys, guys who want to get the fight to the ground. Well, Chael Sonnen is going to want to take this fight to the ground, but he’s going to double-leg him and bring him down.”  read more »

It appears likely that the next time we see newly crowned UFC lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar step into the octagon it will be just minutes after former champ, B.J. Penn does exactly the same thing with news emerging today that the pair will be having an immediate rematch.

According to Sherdog.com, sources close to both fighters have revealed that officials from the UFC have approached them over the fight although no date or venue has been confirmed to them as yet.

Edgar appeared on Sherdog Radio Network this week and said about a rematch with the Hawaiian:

“If anybody’s earned a rematch, it’s B.J.. He’s a legend at 155. I’m ready for it if that’s definitely going to happen. I’m the champion. I don’t get to pick who I fight; they tell me who I fight.”

“It was definitely was a close fight, but I truly do feel I won. There’s going to be people that think one way and people that think the other, but all three judges felt I won.”  read more »

Dana White, president of the UFC, weighed in on Anderson Silva after his bizarre antics in defending the UFC middleweight title against Demian Maia at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi, labelling it “an embarrassment”.
White even said he may even become the first UFC champion to have his fights put onto the non-televised preliminary match-ups in the future. That’s unlikely, but White showed his disgust by moving from the Octagonside to the back of the outdoor arena in Abu Dhabi at UFC 112.
“I dont know how yet, but I will make this up to the fans,” White told Yahoo.com straight after the contest. No surprise, really. Silva has done this before, at UFC 79 and UFC 97. It happens when he is clearly too good for his title challenger, and with the adrenaline flowing, seems to be unable to go for the finish. Particularly when they are grapplers.  read more »
